The hollow stem technique temporarily seals
the walls of the drilled access hole, preventing the bore hole wall from
collapsing while sampling and ensuring discrete interval samples. The
Hollow Stem Auger drills a 75mm diameter hole up between 2 to 3 meters
unless the soil has heavy clays or rocks, which can cause system damage if
excessive force is used. It accepts any sampling or measurement device
with a diameter of 22.22 mm or less.
AMS Roto-Hammer driven Hollow Stem Augers
are designed to rapidly penetrate most types of soils. Rugged construction
with auger flights designed to penetrate and remove soils easily. The
removable inner rods and lower plug seal the inside of the auger during
drilling. The hole is cased by this auger as it passes through the soils.
The special AMS soil probe allows collection of a soil sample through the
auger.
The AMS Hollow Stem Auger is the most
efficient portable Hollow Stem available in terms of effort required and
speed required to access a shallow sampling point with a “cased” hole.
Directional drilling from horizontal to vertical in excavations or beneath
buried objects is easily undertaken. The hard-surfaced bits extend useful
life by reducing wear. May be used with the AMS Gas Vapor Probe System,
Soil Probe and up to 7/8” (2.2cm) bailers. |
