AMS makes augers for almost any soil condition.
Designed for rapid penetration as they enter the soil. Easy to remove as the cut hole is larger than the cylinder, preventing drag. Emptying is facilitated with the extra long, open bail (see figure).
Augers feature 1.6mm (5/8) NC threaded or optional AMS quick-connect couplings. Bits are flush welded to the stainless steel cylinder topped by a carbon steel bail, forged from special high-carbon alloy. Cutting edges are tungsten carbide hard-surfaced and heat-treated before sharpening. Stainless steel augers are available with stainless steel bails and bits.
AMS Augers
AMS Auger heads are available in all stainless steel or carbon steel bits with stainless steel cylinders. Custom build your own auger using compatible AMS components. Augers are available in traditional Threaded ends or Quick Connect ends - depending on your needs. Handles and extensions are listed
below, following the entire range of auger heads.
What to do when youre ready to order!
1. Size
Specify the diameter based on the size of hole you want to drill. The actual hole will be .95 cm (3/8) to 1.90cm (3/4) larger than the specified auger diameter. AMS Soil augers come in nine standard sizes. Our most popular size is the 8.3cm (3-1/4) diameter auger.
2. Material
Select a standard alloy auger (tungsten carbide surfaced, hardened high carbon bits/stainless cylinder and high carbon steel bail) for most applications. Use an all stainless steel auger for sensitive sampling and where an acid bath decontamination procedure will be used.
3. Type
AMS manufactures six specific types of soil augers to suit almost any soil type. Choose from our most popular regular soil auger or specific type augers including mud, sand, planner, flighted screw auger or fibrous core cutter. Select the type of auger from this catalogue. 4. Connections
AMS offers two types of connections for its Auger Heads, Extensions and T-handles: conventional Threaded and Quick Connect.

Mud Auger
Has an opening cut out of the cylinder for easy removal of heavy, wet soil and clay samples. Bits are similar to regular augers but are spaced further apart.
Available in 17.8, 15.2, 12.7, 10.2, 8.2,

Excellent for drilling extremely wet, boggy soil and fibrous, heavily rooted swampy areas. Forged from high-carbon spring steel, it is only available in 7.6cm (3) and 5cm (2) diameter.

Planer Auger
This head cleans out and flattens the bottom of pre-drilled holes. It removes the loose dirt left in the bottom of the hole by other
augers.

AMS Extensions:
Extensions for all AMS sampling equipment are available with either 5/8 (16 mm) NC threaded or AMS hexagonal quick connect fittings in chrome molybdenum type 4130 steel or stainless steel. The quick connect fitting has a positive locking spring loaded pin. This fitting is made of cast steel on both the 4130 and stainless extensions. Augers with diameters 15.24 (6), 17.78cm (7) & 20.32cm (8) have a 3/4 (20 mm) NC fitting.

Soil Sampler Carrying Case
This soft-side case is the convenient, lightweight way to transport your soil augers and extensions. It will hold four extensions up to 1 meter long and two augers. The case is extremely durable, waterproof, and U.V. resistant. The auger pockets are double reinforced for extra wear, the nylon webbed handle is perfectly balanced for ease of carrying, and the nylon webbed straps have long-life buckles. Made of poly-canvas this case is washable with mild detergent and will not shrink.

AMS Quick-Connect
Telescoping Auger
Conveniently sample up to 2.43 meters (8ft) with one extension.
Designed to save both time and money, the telescoping auger features a dual tube extension, cross handle and locking pins with a single auger head as a complete system. Measuring only 1.62 meters (5'4") closed,
the telescoping handle extends to 2.74 meters (9 ft.) fully extended. While augering, extend the handle to the desired depth and secure with the locking pin. Extension and cross handle are made from 4130 chrome molybdenum steel. Each auger has a stainless cylinder and heat treated steel bits. Available in the most popular auger sizes. Additional auger heads sold separately.
Complete Telescoping Auger Systems are
available.
Both Regular and Mud Augers are available in sizes: 5.7cm (2-1/4"),
