Knock-Out Pump System Supports
Environmental Regulations Prohibiting
Return of Landfill Liquids
Landfill Gas (LFG) is saturated with water vapor. As the gas cools in the extraction system piping, the vapor condenses into droplets that become entrained in the gas flow. Eventually, the droplets combine and pool as LFG condensate. Accumulations of condensate in LFG pipelines can obstruct and in some
cases, completely block gas flow. This can lead to surging in the gas lines, making extraction system control and tuning
difficult. Therefore, LFG condensate must be removed in a controlled manner. In cases where environmental regulations
prohibit the return of condensate to the landfill, the Knock-Out Pump System (KO-1) can play an integral role in achieving regulatory compliance.
KO-1 was specifically designed by CES-LANDTEC to simplify the collection and removal of landfill condensate. The knock-out promotes the formation of liquid droplets and separates them from the gas flow. Acting as an intermediate transfer unit, the KO-1 automatically transfers the condensate to a centralized
location for treatment and disposal.
Advanced Features Improve Traditional
Condensate Collection Systems
Traditional condensate trap designs return liquids directly to the landfill or to tanks that require manual pumping-a smelly, messy process that has the potential for spills. As environmental
regulations limit the return of condensate, the KO-1 provides an automatic and economical solution for new and existing gas collection systems. The KO-1 can eliminate the occurrence of condensate surging in LFG lines enabling more accurate wellhead tuning and monitoring of gas extraction systems.
In-line Design Simplifies Installation
The KO-1 system is designed to be installed in-line with the LFG pipelines, with its inlet and outlet attaching to a straight or sloping pipeline segment. The deep excavations associated waste removal and numerous elevation changes required by sawtooth or low-point collection systems are eliminated. The KO-1 prefabricated units are factory tested and shipped ready for immediate installation by a two-man crew. Four simple hookups are required to place the entire assembly in operation.
The CES-LANDTEC Family of Landfill
Gas Management Products
The KO-1 system is an integral part of CES-LANDTEC's family of products developed specifically for the landfill industry. These products are based on more than a decade of operating and
regulatory experience in gas recovery by CES-LANDTEC.

Automated Transfer and Rugged
Construction
The pump is designed to discharge up
to a maximum of 37m of head and with
a maximum flow rate of 10 gpm. The KO-1 incorporates tough, corrosion resistant materials and components proven reliable in harsh landfill applications.
The pneumatically operated pump and controls provide safety and reliability in the harsh and explosive environments of a landfill.
Automatic Operation Reduces Costs
Gas velocity moves the stream of
entrained moisture through the pipeline
and into the KO-1 unit.
The gas/condensate stream enters the KO-1unit through the inlet pipe where the
condensate is separated from the LFG
stream using a cyclonic separation process.
Elimination of direct impact reduces
pressure drop. While LFG exits the outlet
pipe, the condensate is temporarily held in
the intermediate transfer reservoir.
A pneumatically operated level controller
and pump, mounted directly above the
reservoir automatically discharges the
condensate to an appropriate point of
disposal-eliminating the costs of daily
checking and manually pumping
individual traps, low spots and other
collection points.

Pneumatic Pump Control System Conditions Air Flow
The modular pump control system conditions and regulates utility-air flow to the pneumatic pump. The control system includes inlet shutoff valve, pressure relief value, inlet pressure gauge: air filter, air relay, air regulator and pump lubricator.
The air relay allows maximum air flow to the pump and is activated by an air signal from the pneumatic level controller. The air regulator and pressure gauge allows operators to easily control pump operating pressure regardless of inlet air pressure. Operators can also evaluate pump operating conditions, pumping times
and volumes based on the preset operating pressures
The KO-1 is available for 20, 25 & 30cm diameter LFG headers
