The
Dormer Sludger (Whistle top type) is ideal for sampling wet materials,
especially down a bore hole. It operates using a ball valve.
It has a fitting to attach extension
rods at the top which then requires a side opening (that resembles a
train whistle) to empty it. It is superior in muddy materials or clay
lenses because the sludger can be pushed down into the material. It can
also be used with rope by ordering a rope loop.
By pumping the sludger up and down in
short vigorous or long rhythmic movements, a sample will fill the
sludger.
