Geoprobe tools are used to perform soil core and soil gas sampling, groundwater sampling, soil conductivity and contaminant logging, grouting and materials injection.
Some of the
benefits in using a Geoprobe machine and tools over hollow stem auger
methods and tools..
-
Streamline subsurface investigations
-
Need for fewer permanent monitor wells
-
Provide quick, multiple media and multiple depth sampling
-
Lessen investigation derived waste (IDW) disposal headaches
-
Acquire in situ chemical and physical data
-
Use of less visually obtrusive equipment
-
Minimal physical and chemical disturbance of the sample media
-
High degree of sample integrity

| Macro-Core Soil Sampling |
|

|
The Geoprobe Macro-Core soil sampler collects core samples of unconsolidated materials in three different lengths, 1220, 914 and 610 mm. Each sample is 38 mm in diameter. These
unconsolidated materials may include soils, sediments and waste materials or mixtures of these. The device works best in medium to fine grained cohesive materials such as silty/clay soils or sediments. When using the
plastic core catchers, the Macro-Core catcher can also be used to sample medium to coarse grained sandy materials with some fine to medium gravels.
The Macro-Core sample can be used with an open nose cone in stable soils or a closed nose cone in unstable materials to prevent unwanted materials from entering the sampler till the sampling depth has been reached.
Macro-Core Liners
The Macro-Core soil sample can be captured in clear plastic liners. The
liners are inserted into the sampling tool prior to being pushed into
the soil. The most common types are PETG and PVC liners. These are clear
and give you a good view of the soil cross section after retrieval. PVC
plastic core catchers can be used in the end of these liners for
sampling unconsolidated soils |

| Dual Tube Sampling |
|
|
|
|
|
Geoprobe’s Dual Tube Sampling Systems are efficient methods of collecting continuous soil cores with the added benefit of a cased hole. Dual tube sampling uses two sets of probe rods to collect continuous soil cores. One set of rods is driven into the ground as an outer casing. These rods receive the driving force from the hammer and provide a sealed hole from which soil samples may be recovered without the threat of cross contamination.
The second, smaller set of rods are placed inside the outer casing.
The smaller rods hold a sample liner in place as the outer casing is driven one sampling interval. The small rods are then retracted to retrieve the filled liner.

Screen Point 16 Groundwater
Sampler |
|
 |
The Screen Point 16 is a hidden, screen-type, groundwater sampling device. The sampler is driven to the desired depth in the formation then exposed to obtain a groundwater sample.
Large 25 mm outside diameter screen allows the user to deploy either mini-bailers or tubing with bottom check valves into the bore of the screen for sampling both dissolved compounds and non-aqueous phase liquids (NAPLs). 1041 mm (41-inch) exposed screen length allowing fast recharge from the formation. Can be used to sample floating layers (LNAPLs) and sinking layers (DNAPLs).
Assembled sampler contains only four parts. Simplicity of design and ruggedness in construction translates into a lower operating cost for this tool. Sampler is completely sealed during driving.
- Redesigned sheath provides greater
protection for the screen while the tool is being driven.
- Drive head features a longer pin
region for use with a heavier screen sheath.
- Better thread-wear characteristics in
the drive head.
- Large 1.0-inch outside diameter screen
allows the user to deploy either mini-bailers or tubing with bottom
check valves into the bore of the screen for sampling both dissolved
compounds and non-aqueous phase liquids (NAPLs).

- "Groutable" design allows
abandonment grout to be pumped through sampler to meet ASTM Method D
5299-92 requirements.

Monitoring Well
Installations |
|
|
|
|
|
Well Screens designed for setting Small Diameter Monitoring Wells.
Pre-pack well screens are available in two outside diameters… 35 mm OD
(12 or 20 mm ID) and 62 mm OD (25 or 37 mm ID).
To install a monitoring
well with these pre-packs, probe rods are first driven to depth with a
Geoprobe percussion probing machine.
The well assembly is then lowered into the probe rod string with threaded
PVC riser pipe. |
|
|
The small diameter pre-pack well screen assembly uses 12 mm PVC riser pipe and is installed with 2.125-inch OD probe rods. The larger diameter pre-pack well assembly uses 25 mm PVC riser pipe and is installed with 3.25-inch OD probe rods.
Once the well assembly is lowered to the bottom of the probe rod string, the probe rods are retracted to a point above the screen.
A sand barrier, installed directly above the well screen, prevents grout from entering the screens.
This barrier can be created either by natural formation collapse (occurring during the initial probe rod retraction) or by gravity installation of fine-grade sand through the rod annulus. With the barrier in place, granular bentonite or bentonite slurry is then installed in the annulus to form a well seal.

Soil Gas Sampling |
|
|
 |
Geoprobe Systems has developed simple, quick, cost effective methods for conducting soil gas surveys, from basic drive points to vacuum pumps. They offer sampling systems for collection of samples through the probe rod, or through inserted tubing systems using either retractable
point, expendable point, or Post-Run Tubing ( PRT ) system systems.
